Philippians is a love letter written to a church that cared and provided for Apostle Paul, their “spiritual father”. From prison, Paul encourages the church to serve God honestly and joyfully. He provides spiritual guidance and explains how to set aside conflicts and live a humble, Christ-like life. He is a personal example of a Christ follower living in adversity. Paul warns against legalism and against lawlessness. He emphasizes unity, serving with the heart of Christ, and joy. These themes continue to be of vital importance to Christians to this day.
“The Epistle to the Phillipians” is a a part of the Sunset Bible Institute Commentary series.
